PS5: no picture, flickering or no sound on the TV

BeamNG.drive on PS5 shows a black screen, no signal, flickering or a washed-out image, or has no sound? Check HDMI, TV input, resolution, 120 Hz and HDR.

Most picture and sound problems on PS5 come from the HDMI cable, the TV settings or the video output settings of the console. Go through the section that matches your problem.

If the problem happens only in BeamNG.drive and not in other games or the PS5 menu, check the Known Issues and contact us.

Black screen or “No signal”

  1. Make sure the TV is set to the HDMI input the PS5 is connected to.
  2. Check that the HDMI cable is pushed in firmly on both ends.
  3. Try another HDMI port on the TV.
  4. Use the HDMI cable that came with the PS5. Old or cheap cables often can’t carry 4K or 120 Hz.
  5. Connect the PS5 directly to the TV, without an AV receiver, soundbar, splitter, switch or adapter. If it works this way, the problem is in the device between them.
  6. Turn off the PS5 and the TV, unplug both from power for one minute, then turn them on again.

Still black? Lower the resolution in the PS5 Safe Mode

The PS5 has its own Safe Mode. It is not the same as the Safe Mode of the game on PC, and it doesn’t delete anything.

  1. Turn off the PS5 completely (the power light must be off, not orange rest mode).
  2. Press and hold the power button. Release it after the second beep (about 7 seconds).
  3. Connect the controller with a USB cable and press the PS button.
  4. Select Change Video Output → Change Resolution, then choose a lower resolution, for example 1080p.
  5. If the picture is still black, select Change Video Output → Change HDCP Mode → HDCP 1.4 Only.

Picture flickers, turns black for a moment or the signal drops

This usually means the cable or the TV port can’t keep up with the selected video mode.

  1. Use the HDMI cable that came with the PS5 and connect it directly to the TV.
  2. On the PS5, go to Settings → Screen and Video → Video Output and try:
    • 4K Video Transfer Rate: change from Automatic to -1 or -2;
    • 120 Hz Output: set to Off;
    • VRR: set to Off;
    • Resolution: choose a lower resolution.
  3. On the TV, enable the enhanced HDMI mode for this port. Its name depends on the brand, for example “HDMI UHD Color”, “Input Signal Plus” or “HDMI Ultra HD Deep Color”.

The image is cut off at the edges or doesn’t fit the screen

  • On the TV, set the picture size to “Just Scan”, “Screen Fit”, “Full Pixel” or “1:1” (the name depends on the brand).
  • On the PS5, use Adjust Display Area in Settings → Screen and Video.

The image is too dark, too bright or washed out

  • Go to Settings → Screen and Video → Video Output → Adjust HDR and follow the steps on screen.
  • If it still looks wrong, set HDR to Off in the same menu and check whether the picture improves.
  • Turn off extra picture modes on the TV (dynamic contrast, “vivid” mode).

The game feels delayed (input lag)

Turn on Game Mode on your TV. Many TVs add image processing that delays the picture by a noticeable amount. Some TVs call it “Game”, “PC” or “Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM)”.

No sound or sound from the wrong device

  1. Go to Settings → Sound → Audio Output → Output Device and select where the sound should play: the TV, a headset or a device connected to the controller.
  2. Check that the TV is not muted and its volume is up.
  3. If you use a soundbar or AV receiver, make sure it is turned on and set to the right input.
  4. If you use a headset plugged into the controller, unplug it and plug it in again.

Still not working?

If other games and the PS5 menu work fine, but BeamNG.drive doesn’t, contact us and include the model of your TV.

If the PS5 has no picture in any game or menu, please contact PlayStation Support.
